Distant Learning Update #1

Dear VCS Families-

It is out of an abundance of concern for our students, staff members and community, and in coordination with other school districts in the Sacramento region, that I have made the decision to close our campus to all students starting March 16. The school will remain closed for a minimum of two weeks, from Monday, March 16-Friday, March 27. We are continually assessing the highly fluid situation with constantly changing circumstances related to COVID-19 and we may need to make the decision to remain closed even longer.

During these next two weeks, all on-campus activities, including campus classes and extended care, are cancelled. All extracurricular activities have also been cancelled, including the Jog-A-Thon, ACSI Speech Meet, field trips, and all sports practices and games.

Without a doubt, this brings disappointment and many questions. The VCS staff will be meeting on Monday to finish the preparation we began earlier this week to transition to distance learning. Our plan is to update you again by Tuesday, March 17 with the game plan for student learning during the school closure.

Students will be able to come on campus Monday, March 16 from 9 am-11 am to retrieve items they will need or wish to have at home with them (i.e. academic materials, instruments, personal items, etc.) during this campus closure.

Please be aware that there have been no cases of COVID-19 among our students and staff. However, during this time we have arranged for our custodial company to perform a deep clean of the campus.

Please join me in praying for our country during these uncertain times. I encourage you to focus on your children and your community as together we share Christ’s love and peace with those around us. The staff and board are praying for your families as we all move ahead together.

In His service,

John R. Huffman
